From Field, to Lab, to Exhibit: Behind-the-Scenes Archaeology at the Museum
Description
Find out what it takes to bring archaeological fieldwork into public view. Participants will learn how archaeologists analyze artifacts and how this information is used in exhibits, museum reports, and to answer research questions. Join Lab Directors Tracey Thomas and John Pasquini, and Lab Technician Jared Williams from the Cultural Resource Survey Program at the New York State Museum for a behind-the-scenes tour of a working archaeology lab. Examples from recent excavations will be on display. The tour is limited to 30 people.

Description
Featured guest speaker will be Jennifer J Prutsman-Pfeiffer. Her talk is entitled "There's A Mummy in the Closet!" and Other Interesting Cases of Forensic Anthropology. The lecture will start at 7 pm and will be held in the Bausch and Lomb Parlor. Tours of the exhibition--Protected for Eternity--will be available following the lecture. The education department of the Memorial Art Gallery will also provide docents within the exhibit between 5 pm and 6 pm and again at 7:30 pm , after the lecture to help answer any questions that may come up regarding the exhibit.

Archaeological Field School
Description
Open House at our archaeology site at Robert H. Treman Park,
Enfield Falls, a 19th century hamlet. We have excavated the general store, the blacksmith's home, the hotel owner's home, and now we are looking for the historic hotel.
There will be tours of the historic mill including our archaeology exhibit in the mill, tours of our archaeology site, and tours of the gorge and waterfalls.

Upper Robert H. Treman State Park, Ithaca
Take Rt 13 south about 2 miles south of the city of Ithaca (Past Home Depot) to Rt 327 (there will be signs for Robert Treman State Park). Do NOT turn in at the lower park but continue on RT. 327 for 3 miles to the upper park. You will travel on an entry road for 1 mile to a toll booth and you will see 2 parking lots (we will be digging near the parking lot to the left). The historic mill museum will be on your right.

SUNY New Paltz Archaeological Field School
Description
An Archaeological Field School on a late 17th Century Huguenot site with prehistoric occupations extending from the Contact Period at c. 1609 to c. 4000 BC.

No fee required for visiting excavation, but guided house tours of fully furnished early 18th century Huguenot houses require fee. The fee is 10.00 for adults, which includes viewing 3-4 houses depending on availability. Note: house tours are not given on Mondays.

Archaeology of the 1838 Mills Mansion, Livingston County
Description
A multi-component historic/prehistoric site on the grounds of the home of Maj. Gen. William Augustus Mills (War of 1812). Restored 1838 Federal style mansion is listed on the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places, and accredited by the American Association for State and Local History. Prehistoric component is represented by Archaic features and artifacts. Exhibits and archaeological laboratory on site.

Meetings of the Frederick m. Houghton Chapter of the NYSAA

Meetings include a guest speaker on an archaeological topic, a 50/50 draw, and informal discussion among members. Everyone is encouraged to bring in artifacts or knapping accomplishments for show or identification (no sales of artifacts are permitted).
